My Heart Attack
I died on June 4Th, 2014
I had massive heart attack; in the morning … right after my
shower. It was just after 7am.
My two children and
husband were ready for work and school.
I told my son didn't feel well, and I was going to lay down for a little
bit. My husband was taking my daughter to school,
and he was going to come back to the house to pick up my son since I was not
feeling great (I normally take my son each day). I decided I felt better and then texted
Brian, and told him I would take Evan to school. As usual, Brian didn't listen to me (HA HA!)
– and he came home to take Evan, anyway.
During the two minute drive, Brian attempted to reach me on the cell
phone. Brian then called the home phone,
and my son answered, Brian asked if he could get mommy on the phone, so Evan
took the phone up to me; in bed. Evan said
I was asleep, and was not able to get me to answer. Brian said he was on his way, and would be
here in 30 seconds. Thank God he was.
When Brian opened the garage door, our son was standing
inside the kitchen (just inside the garage).
Brian entered the house, and Evan said: “let’s go, dad.” Brian insisted on checking on me, since I was
not feeling well. So when Brian came
upstairs, he tried to say goodbye, and tell me he was leaving – but there was
no response. He said my name again and
again – no answer. He walked over to me
and tapped me, and realized I was very cold.
I looked blue. He forced my
eyelids open, and my eyes were rolled way back onto my head. Both Evan and Brian were yelling out my
name. Brian started CPR and asked Evan
to get the phone. He called 911 and began chest
compressions. Brian took me down to the
floor, to allow better compressions. He
continued working on me, while my son went to the front door to open it for the
firemen and he flagged them down as they entered the neighborhood. Excellent response team – and great job by my
sweet son. The Carlsbad Firemen were
here very quickly, and they used the defibrillator to restart my heart (it took
two shocks).
I was taken by ambulance to Tri-City and underwent surgery
to open my 100% occluded LED artery. I
was in a medically induced, and in ICU coma from Wednesday, June 4th through Friday June 6th. There
were some excellent team members there to care for me, but the most amazing were
my friends and family. I was finally able to go home on July 12th.
I was told I could not got to Michigan, BUT – I went for a 2nd
opinion, and I am now wearing a remote monitoring device; a Zoll Life Vest and
this vest actually monitors my heart, and will give me a shock to restart it,
if it stops again. God is good. Still will have to pray for strength if I am
going to make it back to Michigan.
That trip will be the trip of a lifetime, I am quite
sure. Love you all, my dear friends that have been there for me, throughout this entire ordeal. And thank you for your
love, kindness, monetary donations, and blessings.
